Course Description
This is the first semester of a two-semester capstone with advanced substantive material and the integration and application of concepts and skills from earlier courses to produce a professional research paper.

Research Conceptualization and Proposal Development
Learning Outcome
Students will learn to develop clear, researchable sociological questions through the production of research proposals, that include a literature review, theoretical framework, and methodology section.

Data Acquisition and Management Skills
Learning Outcome
Students will demonstrate data analysis skills by identifying appropriate datasets and managing and organizing data for analysis using tools and software relevant to sociological research.

Literature Review and Theoretical Integration
Learning Outcome
Students create a literature review that demonstrates their ability to critically evaluate existing research as well as how to apply sociological concepts to data analysis.

Integrating life goals and professional and career interests
Learning Outcome
Students wil be able to: Integrate the knowledge and skills learned in the sociology program with their career interests by translating their skills into a resume. Develop an original research product that can be submitted as a writing sample to graduate schools, or to employers based on their educational and career goals.
